  2. Hi Laura,

Super informative! Thank you. I had been exactly looking for this type of information as I’m exploring all possible natural treatments I can incorporate to deal with my h-pylori instead of doing the antibiotics as the first treatment. I was very confused about all the numbers and stuff you so clearly explain, so I’ll get right to my question/concern (read several of your articles here). I have bought the brand Manuka Health (MGO 573+), but now I’m concerned about the MGO that I learned about through you. Unfortunately, I had just bought this before I found your article. Should I not take it? I know that article was from quite a few years ago, so has anything else been learned to not be so worried about the MGO content level? I guess I now also understand why the “+” sign in the bottle, which means it could be even higher or lower, but who knows. There’s batch info but not date of course, except for the use by date of 1/21/2026. I guess I’m concerned if this is too high of MGO to ingest even though I might only take it for a short period of time (as suggested in the clinical trial stated in one of your articles). Any further thoughts? THANK YOU!

    1. Hi Lili,
Thank you for the good words.
Yes, you can take that manuka honey with MGO 573, it corresponds to a UMF16+, which is a therapeutic grade, for short term consumption. Take it before meal, with a little cracker or a piece of bread. Don’t forget about the mastic gum, also very effective.
      All the best!
      Laura

      1. Thank you for your kind and prompt response, but isn’t this “concentration” too high? Even Louis’s story (your post), he used UMF 10-15, so …. still quite concerned if this will be toxic to my system even if for small doses. Certainly after reading your articles and learning more about MGO has me concerned 🙁

        1. Hi Lili,

You need a therapeutic grade for this honey to work. You have UMF16+ which is not that much. Yes, most probably the MGO content has grown with time, but don’t forget it is not alone. In manuka honey MGO acts differently. The synergy between all honey’s compounds turn MGO from a toxic substance into an antibacterial substance. There is something in manuka honey, without any antibacterial activity of its own, that acts as a synergist with the MGO to create an effect even greater than that predicted by knowing only the separate effect of MGO.
Yes, some scientists say MGO is toxic, and it is on its own. Within manuka honey it becomes an antibacterial agent. However, diabetics and people with IBD (even IBS) should take it cautiously, if at all.
Don’t be concerned about this, it’s for a limited period of time anyway. With a lower MGO you risk of having no effect. There were studies where they used UMF10+ and failed. Again, you need a therapeutic grade.
Honestly, when it comes to manuka honey I am more concerned with its authenticity then with the growing MGO.
Be more confident in the product you’re about to ingest. And, with the risk of sounding coocoo, bless it when you take it. Give thanks for the help it provides, for the good that it does to your body. And not just say it. Try to feel that feeling of gratitude for making your body healthy and for solving your problem. Like you have made a time leap and now you are healthy and grateful. (I’m sure you are familiar with the work of Masaru Emoto and his blessing of the water…)
          All the best!

  3. Dear Laura

Can you give me an explanation, how to make a combination of black seed and honey in a jar myself.
    I need information regarding quantities

    Thank you

    1. Hi Brankica,

The dosage depends a lot on the disease you want to heal. An adult can take 3 spoons of honey per day, but the black seeds dosage may differ. In treating HIV here is what Conrad LeBeau says: “For those diehards who won’t use any HIV meds, though your CD4 count is below 300, I would suggest starting off with a higher dose of Black Seed powder from 6000 mg (6 grams) or even more.” One level measuring teaspoon is about 2 grams so one can mix 1 teaspoon of black seeds with 1 spoon of honey and take it 3 times per day, half an hour before meals.
According to your condition you can adapt this dose, maybe start with 6 grams and then decrease the quantity. Do as you feel inspired to do. Check other info materials, too, and most importantly, once you start, be consistent. It’s not a chemical drug that takes the pain away in half an hour. It takes time.
And when taken honey, remember that it should be raw and as fresh as possible (this means within 3 months after harvesting).
      All the best!
      Laura

  4. Hello there; do you know where one might obtain Clusia Rosea propolis (Cuban) here in the U.S.? Thanks!

  5. Hi!

Thank you for such an informative site! There is a lot of ancient wisdom that needs to be learnt from bees and its products.

I was wondering if you can advice me on any healing bee products and remmedies for internal and external hemorrhoides. I was also wondering whether royal jelly is recommended in case of hypothyroidism.

Thank you in advance for you reply!

  6. Hello!

I am wondering if you have any sites/resources you can direct me to that have articles published around the physiological and psychological benefits of this form of apitherapy (sleeping with the bees). I am starting a bio-dynamic bee sanctuary in Maine and am looking for research on the subject to share with those that visit. I have one bee bed up that I’ve been sleeping in every night since June 1st and I feel amazing!

Any leads on scientific studies would be helpful.. Thank-you!

  9. Hello, Laura.

I am loving all the apitherapy and hive product-related information. Would you kindly add me to your mailing list as a subscriber? I kept trying to add myself, but each time I clicked the box to add my email, it just sent me to a page about honey and ginger – it was weird, LOL. Thanks so much!

    Cheers,

  11. Great website!

Just a few lines to say that I’m working in the field of acid reflux, and I find honey as one of the best supporting natural tools to help the people.

Manuka honey is especially good because of its properties, moreover, it’s good for most people with allergies as well.

I believe that despite benefits, still too many physicians underestimate the power of honey for our health.

    Thanks again for your efforts!

    And for your great website!

    1. Hello Admin,

  17. hi laura, good day! i have son suffering recurrent tonsilitis for 11months.His aso result is 400,he took penicillin but still he got tonsilitis every month..i read about manuka honey that it will help for strep throat, just want to know if how many teaspoon a day my son need to take? he is 6 years old..please help laura..many thanks..Godbless.

    1. Hi Alvie,
Sorry for answering late, it was Christmas and New Year and I didn’t have much time. It sounds horrible, indeed, tonsillitis every month… Of course you can try with manuka honey, UMF15 to UMF20 one teaspoon per day (followed by 30 minutes of not eating/drinking anything).
Yet, I also recommend surgery. It really is not a big deal, it’s actually removing them and nothing else. I had the same problem. Never had ice-cream as a child. My parents said that even they were sick they still can protect me. But they were wrong.
At 27 year old, I decided to take them out. I’ve never had any kind of problem since, and my throat and lungs manage to be just fine even without them.

  18. Youre so cool! I dont suppose Ive read anything like this before. So nice to find somebody with some original thoughts on this subject. realy thank you for starting this up. this website is something that is needed on the web, someone with a little originality. useful job for bringing something new to the internet!

  19. Hello!!!
Recently I got a Sample Of Fresh Sidr Honey Tested From a laboratory And got a Diastase Number of 80. IS it Normal??? although the results appears to be very good but I have read many reports and articles on internet where there were lab results of various different floral honey samples published and the maximum value of diastase activity I found was 50. Can a Honey thats freshly extracted yield this much High Diastase Number????

    1. It’s not normal, that’s for sure, but it’s not necessary a bad thing. Diastase is present in the nectar of the plant but it is also added by the bees. It digests starch to maltose. It’s a good indicator of the freshness of honey. A minimum value of 8 diastase units is set in the Codex Alimentarius and the European honey directive. If honey is old or heated this enzymes will decrease.

On the other hand, diastase number can also be modified if the pH is modified. The optimum pH range for this enzyme is 4.6 to 5. Complete control of diastase activity can be achieved at a pH of less than 3.9.

You should not worry that a honey with such a high diastase content is not safe for you. On the contrary. Diastase is often prescribed as a supplement for humans.
Our saliva contains amylase and glucoamylase that help break down carbohydrates into sugar so they can be digested. Diastase helps this process, as it is a natural form of amylase. This supplement may benefit people with digestive disorders, those looking for help losing weight, and people in the early stages of diabetes.
Warm milk and honey (due to their content of diastase) are recommended to treat minor acid reflux symptoms. Acid reflux is caused by certain foods people eat that are not being digested properly — it causes symptoms of upset stomach, burning in the throat or chest, and abdominal pain.

So, the content of diastase in honey is influenced by the natural difference in pH among honeys, nectar flow and foraging patterns of the bees.

Also, its purpose in honey is unknown to the scientists, because there is no starch in nectar (or the later honey). So, why do bees add it in nectar?
The good thing is that such a high amount tells us that the honey is fresh. And it’s safe to eat it.

      Laura

    2. Thank you very much for your fast and helpful reply…. I want to know that can a Honey be adultrated by foreign diastase enzyme Meaning Can some body inject or Mix diastase enzyme externally in the Honey so that its Lab test could be modified and result in high diastase activity with in honey. IS it Possible And If Possible So is it Commercially Feasable for some one to do it????

    3. Hello again, 🙂
Yes, diastase can be extracted from many sources (various plants like barley seed or even milk). It’s even available online. Here’s an example: https://www.rxwiki.com/diastase. So I suppose it is possible to add it into honey to make it look fresh at a lab test.
Yet, 80 is rather high. The person who would do this, should be familiar to the right quantity of diastase that is usually found in honey. He wouldn’t put that much.
As I said, it also depends on the pH. You should look at all compounds. The lab must be able to offer more info on them all. And give its opinion regarding this high DN.
You should not exclude the possibility of a lab error. It’s possible, too.
      Laura

  20. help! how to use manuka honey for oral spirochete infection? swish? swallow? spit? take it orally? brush my teeth with it? how to take to prevent blood /brain barrier transmission of oral spirochete infection!! AAHG!!

    1. Hi Anne,
You can do both: ingest an UMF15+ 1g per kg body weight and gargle with a 50-50 water diluted mixture 3 times per day. In between, you should also gargle with colloidal silver, after you have put a teaspoon of this under the tongue and hold it for 30 seconds.

It is also good to put some of these stuff into your nose. And because it is difficult to dilute and do a perfect sterile solution at home, I think you should rather buy a spray. I think I put a link here in this article, please take a look. Can manuka honey treat sinus infection? Are there some other natural alternatives?

There are also toothpastes with colloidal silver and some with propolis and manuka honey. Highly recommended.

You can also put some drops of colloidal silver in your nose – whichever is easier for you. And there are also some very effective essential oils, like oragano oil, which works very well on bacteria. Use a neti pot
For sinus infections the best results have been obtained with 4 drops of oregano oil and 1 tsp. of colloidal silver to 1 cup of neti pot solution (1 cup filtered warm water and 1/4 tsp salt), mixing well to evenly distribute the oil. Flush your sinuses 2 to 3 times a day. 3 days per week.
Lower the frequency of the flushes before you stop them completely. Let the mucosa slowly regenerate.
After a month do a check test to see if the bacteria is still there. If the result is negative, you should think of a maintenance treatment. If the result is positive change the treatment.

All these recommendations come strictly from my research; I am not an MD. You should also ask a naturopath about this.
      All the best
      Laura

    2. Best natural remedies against spirochetes (Borrelia) that I know of are essential oils (I have used a multiblend successfully, with ao oregano and thyme), colloidal silver and wild teasel (Dipsacus fullonum, syn. Dipsacus sylvestris).
Any indications of more serious tooth problems (cold sensitive eg) should be addressed asap ! Just had a root canal and feeling lots better now.
      Good luck !

  21. Great Blog…..good info. I am the the #1 producer of Black Mangrove Honey in the State of Florida collected from Mosquito Lagoon in New Smyrna Beach Florida. You need to “add” it to your list and you may be surprise by it’s benefits.

    Thanks

    1. Hi Sonny,

I will add it, of course. Thanks for reminding me. And I will definitely mention the #1 producer! 🙂
      Laura

  22. My daughter has cystic fibrosis and the bacteria called b cepatia. It is resistant to all antibotics. I was told we should try this honey. Please give me your thoughts on it. I don’t know what kind or where to get it. Thanks for you help.

    1. Hi Linda,

I am so sorry to here this. By “this honey” I assume it’s manuka honey, right?
Please read all my articles about manuka honey, so you’ll get a clear idea on what it is. Manuka honey is indeed antimicrobial and it does wonders on every infected, hard to heal wound. Internally though, it’s different story. There are not enough studies, clinical trials on its capacity. But this is one of those cases when you have to try it and hope it will work. Even if the blood tests are still positive, if the bacterial load is lowered and quality life improved, then it’s worth it.
Here is the best manuka honey (according to the buyers’ appreciation), but any honey with an UMF15+ or 20+ is good. Not more.
The dose should be 1 g honey/kg body weight per day. One tablespoon has 21 grams. For a month and then stop for another month and take it again. 3 times.

You can also try other natural antibiotics like propolis water extract (which are also really good for lungs) or essential oils like clove oil or oregano oil. Please google them and give them a try.

Today the alternative medicine is taken very seriously and is studied a lot. A naturopath can offer you solutions. Find one. (nevertheless beware of scams. There are so so many! Always verify them in every possible way. Stay away from those that guarantee you a success if you buy their expensive products or run a MLM business.)
      All the best! Laura

    1. Thank you for your amazing website. What a resource this is! I have spent two hours on it today looking at various antifungal options, but for whatever reason there seems to be more research on the antibacterial rather than antifungal properties of honey(s). I have a persistent fungal infection on the skin and am trying to choose a good honey and/or combination, like onion or garlic, etc. to try topically. (Or orally as well.) The fungal issue is unsurprisingly connected to gut flora problems which I keep managed fairly well now. Might you have a suggestion for a honey and/or a honey combination? Your help would be most appreciated.

PS I tried to send this on the message function, but it would not send for some reason.
